Jesus was a student too
You have probably already learned about Jesus’ birth. You may also know that Jesus’ parents had to leave their home and go to Egypt to keep Him safe.
What you may not know is that Jesus was also a student, just like you.
The Bible gives us an important story about Jesus when He was 12 years old. This story is found in Luke 2:41-51. It is the only childhood story about Jesus in the Bible.
Jesus listened and asked questions
In this story, Jesus was at the temple. The Bible says He was “sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.”
This tells us that Jesus valued learning and education.
Even when He was young, He showed us how to be a good student. He listened, and He asked questions.
The teachers were amazed
Jesus did not only talk. He also listened. He sat with people who knew the Scriptures and learned from them.
The teachers were amazed by His understanding and His answers.
That reminds us that learning matters to God. We can listen, ask good questions, and keep growing.
Mary and Joseph looked for Jesus
Mary and Joseph did not know Jesus was still at the temple. They began looking for Him and were worried.
When they found Him, He was in His Father’s house, learning and talking with the teachers.
This part of the story helps us see Jesus as a real child who grew, learned, and obeyed God.
They found Him in the right place
Mary and Joseph finally found Jesus in the temple. He was calm, safe, and focused on God’s Word.
Jesus cared about learning what pleased His Father.
You can learn from Jesus by listening carefully, asking questions, and wanting to grow in wisdom.
God can use your gifts
As a kid, your purpose is to learn and grow. Learning in school is only part of your education.
Learning biblical lessons about how to be a good person is just as important as anything you learn in school.
As you get older, you will start thinking more about what you want to be when you grow up. That includes finding what you enjoy doing and asking God to show you how to use your talents.
Live like Jesus by helping people
No matter what your talent is, God can find a way to use it.
Most of all, whatever your talent is, find a way to serve. Serving means giving your time and helping others without expecting anything in return.
If you see a kid fall on the playground, help them up. If you see a kid at school sitting all alone, be a friend to him or her. You may have more in common than you think.
Children are important to Jesus
Living like Jesus means being a good friend. It means being kind, honest, and obedient.
Jesus welcomed children and adults to come to Him. Jesus showed that He values children.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
You can be an example now
The Bible also says, “And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” Mark 10:16
Jesus also said, “Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Luke 18:17
1 Timothy 4:12 reminds us not to let anyone look down on us because we are young, but to set an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.
