God can use young people

While we do not know Timothy’s exact age, we get clues that he was younger than most people in ministry at that time.

Paul told Timothy, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young.”

Timothy reminds us that God can use young people who are willing to listen, learn, and serve.

Timothy learned about God at home

Timothy grew up learning about God. His mother, Eunice, and his grandmother, Lois, taught him about God when he was very young.

Paul reminded Timothy that he had known the Scriptures from infancy.

Their faith was passed down to him, which shows that you are never too young to start following God.

Timothy became Paul’s helper

Timothy came from two different backgrounds. His mother was Jewish, and his father was Greek.

When Paul met Timothy in the town of Lystra, the believers there spoke highly of him.

Paul invited Timothy to join him on his missionary journeys, and Timothy left home to help share the good news about Jesus in many cities.

Paul cared about Timothy

Paul cared about Timothy and called him “my true son in the faith.”

Paul wrote letters to teach and encourage him, and two of those letters are in our Bible today.

Timothy had someone older helping him grow, just like God can place teachers, parents, grandparents, pastors, and mentors in our lives.

Timothy was trusted with important work

Paul trusted Timothy with important jobs. He sent Timothy to teach and encourage churches, including the churches in Thessalonica and Corinth.

Timothy was also given the job of helping lead and care for the church in Ephesus.

These were big responsibilities, but God was with Timothy and helped him serve.

Takeaway

God can use you right where you are.

Timothy’s age and background remind us that God uses people from all kinds of backgrounds to bring people together. God calls us for His purpose and places us right where He needs us to be. God is with us, just as He was with Timothy.

Prayer

Pray with me.

Heavenly Father, thank You for putting people in my life who teach me about You. Help me to learn and become who You want me to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
